important soffit question--HELP

we are siding our home and have a total of 8 sq of soffits; all are vented except 2 square..where is it important to have vented soffits and where do you not use vented?
i guess over a porch and a garage overhang would NOT need to be vented?

Alternate the vented with unvented. 6 vented for 2 solids.

No, all areas will have the potential of moving air to the ridge vents. Are we talking vinyl soffiting or another material?

caulking tips?

i am getting ready to re-caulk the wood trim (where it meets the brick) on our garage. the old caulk has separated from the trim. does anyone have tips on getting that nice clean line of caulk? do you smooth it with a tool or just a finger? don't smooth it at all? my caulk jobs aren't too sloppy, but i'd like any tips if you have them. thanksRead More

Painting aluminum capping on exterior windows

The capping around my windows is dirty and stained with tape marks (probably from hanging xmas lights by the prior owner). I want to paint the capping and need to know what kind of paint to use. I was going to use Rustolem. Also, should I sand the capping and apply a primer prior to painting. The capping is white, which is the color I want to keep.Read More
