Installing vinyl siding ???????
Hello,
getting ready to strip of old steel siding, & clapboard off our house and want to sheet over with rigid foam insulation than vinyl siding. Been told many ways to do it, but I want to have it done correctly.
Here'a what I got in mind, foamboard directly on the sheeting, vertical furring strips on over the foam at 16" c/c(nailed to structure) than hang vinyl siding from furring strips.
Should I use some sort of house wrap?
If so where should it be installed behind foam or over foam?
Thanks
JP

I would use some kind of house wrap being tyvek or a lowes brand. That will help w/ drafts and air leaks. I am no pro, but my neighbor did his and he had what you have. He also put furring strips up over the foam board and it looks great.
Not a pro but just posting what my neighbor did.

Never done it myself, and I'm sure you will here more Pro opinions, but why the furring strips? Seems like I've seen that people put up the foam and wrap, then just used longer nails to install the siding. Mark where the studs are on the wrap/foam, then good to go.
Wouldn't you have issues with windows and trim if you furr it out?
As I said, no expert..just raising the questions.

Hi JP, how much foam are you looking to add and what type. Foil faced is putting your vapor barrier (VB) on the outside, when it would normally be on the inside of the house. Blue or pink will allow some moisture movement which may be necessary if you have the VB on the inside. What do you currently have for insulation? And the house wrap would go on the outside, but in some cases it is not needed. More details please.

Looking to add about 1" - 1.5" of foam, polyurethane type, there is fibreglass in the wall, although not very much (2"x4" walls).I don't think there is vapour barrier there now. Trying to determine the correct way to install all this without having issues down the road with rot..........
Thanks
