Planning small attached shed - what to do with existing siding on the house?

I have 8" aluminum siding on the house & I'd like to build an attached yard shed. I believe the aluminum siding is installed right over the original siding from 1962.

What is the best way to handle the existing siding when attaching the studs for the shed to the house? Do I need to cut it, remove it, leave it? If I leave it is there something to fill the gap between the stud & siding?

Anything attached to the house needs a permanent frost-proof footing. What is speced on your plans to the Building Department? Be safe, G
