more vinyl siding ?
Couple more questions regarding vinyl siding
1) does vinyl siding fade (get lighter over the years). My house was sided 4 years ago and now I need to do my detached garage which was never done at the time. I have gotten color samples form the place where I think they got the house siding from however it seems they have samples that are just a shade darker or a shade lighter than what is on the house. The garage is about 40 ' from the house and you may not notice the difference.
2) if I rip the current wood clapboards off of the garage and bring down to the bare plywood, is okay to put a layer of roofing felt paper under the new siding as a barrier. I have heard pros and cons of both felt paper and houswrap. the existing siding on the garage now has felt paper under it and I don't see any issues at this point.

Yes vinyl siding does fade. It should not be a problem for a detached building but I would not put the new right next to the old.
I like housewrap over tar paper because it has fewer seams so it can stop air penetration better. I really can't think of a reason to use tar paper except that it might be easier to install on a windy day.

Some siding fades faster than others - neighbor across the street had an addition built two years after initial construction and got all new siding out of it because the exisiting stuff had faded so much the manufacturer could not match it.
Tar paper seems to be the way it used to be, housewrap is now
