kind of a dumb question about siding prep but advice appreciated

so, my fiance and i bought and older home and after tackling other projects i've got vinyl siding ordered for our eyesore of a garage that has crumbled cedar siding on it.

i won't be installing the vinyl siding until late April but this weekend i was hoping to remove the existing cedar siding and haul it to the dump (what an exciting life i live!)

is it ok to leave the garage unprotected with no siding for a month and a half? i live in Alberta, Canada and we still no doubt will get the odd snowstorm. is it better to apply the tar paper immediately after i remove the old cedar siding?

any advice greatly appreciated. cheers....danBeer 4U2

I would wait until your ready for the whole project to be done at once. But i guess you would be ok to take the old down and wrap it in Ty-Vek home wrap or similiar.

What is underneath the ceder siding? Is it plywood, OSB (kind of a sheet made out of large wood chips), buildrite, or wood planks?
The big thing is to protect it from water IE: rain. 45 days might be a bit long to expose to the weather. I agree with Joe about putting up a house wrap.

Too bad you can't get someone to remove the siding for you. We use cedar shakes endlessly as shims setting windows and doors. If you removed them and stacked them a little, you may get a contractor by to take them off your hands, forestalling one more trip to the dump.
