adding vinyl siding
I just had a window put in where I had French doors and am having the hardest time adding additional siding around this area. The siding on the house currently is no longer in stock with the company that put it on, so we are trying to tackle this project ourselves. We went to our local store and got all the material that we need but having difficulties getting started. There's a 2 inch gap on the side and top of the window and we have no idea on how to fill that in without taking all the siding off and cutting it to fit. Can you offer some insight on this project. So, of course there is an opening now under the window that needs siding but not a large area at all.

Jarod, welcome to the forums! Pictures of your situation would help. you can post them http://forum.doityourself.com/electr...your-post.html. That way we can see what you see.

Patching vinyl siding is one of the easiest ones to do. The hard part is finding siding that will match. All you need is a pair of tin snips and a siding zipping tool that can be found at most big box stores for about $10.

If the wall area is small enough, pull off all the siding in that area trim around the window and start from scratch with siding that is as close to matching as possible.
Pull the siding from a gable area and use that to match the existing then use a different siding (decorative shakes) to finish off the gable area. Trim around the window then you should selectively remove existing siding pieces so that you are not installing little scrape to fill the gaps.
Use a board like Azek and use as filler trim around the window opening.
Either way install proper flashing around all openings.
