How to Stucco

I have a concrete block house. I want to add 3" - 4" of polystyrene foam insulation to the outside and then stucco over it. This is a pretty standard look here in the southwest. How do I attach the polystyrene to the house. After it is installed do I need to install a metal lath over the polystyrene before I stucco? This is a pretty standard finish (polystyrene & stucco) here in the southwest and I see it a lot on comercial buildings but I don't remember ever seeing lath. It looks like the stuccoers just apply the stucco directly to the polystyrene.

rpc7271,

Welcome to the forums.

What you are talking about is called 'foam-core stucco'. Depending on the code that your local bldg. dept. has adopted, it may not be legal anymore. Talk to them and find out. You may have to go with 3 coat stucco.
