Foundation Siding

Hi, I just had my house built last fall and the contractor only sided down to the top of the foundation and since it is a walk out basement with stepped down side foundation walls there is alot of concrete showing above the grade. I would like to extend the siding down to the ground. The questions I have is how to attach the siding to the concrete? Everything I have found says to use furing strips but won't that make the foundation siding stick out noticably farther than the rest? Also since you install siding from the ground up, whats a good technique to make sure it snaps together well from the new to the existing? Thanks!!

I'm not overly fond of vinyl close to the ground..... if a weedeater gets near it

Have you considered applying stucco to the bare block?
