Fence Crossboards..

I have an older red cedar fence. It is weathered gray... I am in need of changing a few of the cross boards.. Really strapped for cash at the moment and was wondering how pressure treated or regular 2 x 4's would work..Would they also weather to a grayish color...Don't want it to look to crappy for my neighbor, as when the fence was built the bad side faces outward. Thanks so much!!

A picture would help, but the short answer is treated lumber will turn gray in time. It will take a few years, and might not be 100% the same, but it will weather.

Thanks so much for your help..Maybe that is what I will use then. Would there be any other concerns in regard to using pressure treated instead of the original cedar??? Just want to make sure all will be well if I do choose to use the treated..

The only problem I see with using PT is that unless you do some weather treatment to it, you will encounter warpage in the board as it dries and weathers to your gray. Water sealing products may keep it from graying. You may be able to find a graying stain that will treat the wood, not sure. Using the original wood will ensure it is the same color once it weathers out, but $$, right?
