I think most of them use 1.5" roofing nails but don't know for sure. Check back later as I'm sure some of the siding guys will be along sooner or later..... sooner if the rain gets here as promised

If you are nailing to plywood sheathing...just use galv roofing nails long enough that the tip will penetrate the back of the sheathing slightly when the siding is nailed loosely Remember the siding has to slide a bit. Normally 1" is plenty and easier to get your fingers on than a shorter nail that might work.
If you know where the studs are...then you would want to use longer ones at those locations.

Well....I'm no Pro.....but 1" should be plenty...IMO. Any nail protruding on the other side is a waste of metal as far as I'm concerned. Maybe that's incorrect.
I mean...heck...not a huge cost difference between 1" and 1 1/4".....longer won't hurt.

Totally depends on how fat your fingers are. I use 1 1/4". That extra isn't for holding power in the wood, but holding ability in my fingers without cramping them.
