repair for chipped Hardi planks
What would you advise to use for a suitable repair to chipped edges of butt joined planks that were incorrectly face nailed too close to the edges. This wall is in total sun in GA. I'm sure there is some expansion/contraction going on against those finish nails that are face nailed. I'm fairly sure the planks were also blind nailed so I don't know why they added the face nails also unless the boards were not laying flat enough. I doubt there was anything put behind the joints. Built in 2009 but builder is long gone and this is 2nd owner. He does not want to replace the boards.

James Hardie instructions for overdriven nails says:
• If nail is countersunk, fill nail hole and add a nail. (fig. B)
Their caulking recommendation:
For best results use an Elastomeric Joint Sealant complying with ASTM C920
Grade NS, Class 25 or higher or a Latex Joint Sealant complying with ASTM
C834.

Are the chipped edges "gone", or are they still hanging on. You may want to post a couple of pictures so we can see the degree of damage that you are concerned with. I am sure there is a solution. http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...your-post.html

repair for chipped Hardi planks
Most of chips are gone so just empty place but are small. House is my son's and not able to make a picture at this time. Just wanted something like Bondo that could be shaped and not look like a repair. I do not think Bondo would be compatible with Hardi plank.

Bondo, or Minwax wood repair (same stuff) can be used for repairs, but not sure without the pix. There may be other issues that would prevent it.
