Stucco cracking and falling off

Hey everyone. We have a house that is about 4 years old. The stucco that was applied to our block foundation is cracking and falling off in places. I tried to patch but of course the color isn't the same and I don't like the look of it. If I was going to redo everything are there any preparations I need to make or just apply over top of the old? I would remove and part that is flaking off beforehand. Thank you!

From a painter's perspective - I'd patch, prime and paint the stucco. As long as the stucco texture is similar you won't see the patches and the paint will prevent water from getting into the stucco which is one of the likely causes for the failure.

Yes it is parging, not stucco. Thanks for the clarification. Now, how to go about fixing or replacing with some no maintenance alternative.

I'm not sure there is any real difference between parging and stucco other than a stucco job might be a little neater. It might be possible to tint the stucco/mortar to make it better match the old but the only sure fire way to make it all look seamless is to either paint or restucco the entire wall. I'm a painter, not a mason but I would assume if you clean and score the old stucco, a new layer should bond ok.

Stucco cracking and falling off

Do you have any clue as to why it is falling off? Is it coming off at the interface of the foundation or is it spalling off in layer form. Also what is the foundation material, is it concrete block or lightweight aggregate (cinder) block ? Different solutions for different situations.

It's completely coming off of the cinder blocks, not in layers, but all the way down to the block.

stucco cracking and falling off

Any chance of a picture? Would you classify your lot as wet? It is unusual for properly made stucco /pargetting to fail on lightweight block. Is this happening on a widespread basis ?

No picture at the moment...I wouldn't say it is a wet lot. I'm starting to think it's where the block my have slightly settled causing the parge to come off. It's is only in a three spots around the entire house.
