25 year old Aluminum Siding Chalking

I have wood grain aluminum siding that has been chalking and turning white for the last 10 years. What can I do to remove the white film to restore it close to it's original color? Thanks for any ideas.

I had a friend with a same problem (his siding was brown, but chalky). He used Pledge and polished his whole house with it, including his garage doors. I thought he was nuts when he told me about it, but it looked like brand new when he was done.

Probably the combination of waxes and polishing was what did the trick. If you have any furniture polish under the counter you could try a small area.

One thing you need to consider is that if you ever want to paint the aluminum siding, applying anything that shines it up might make a future paint job impossible.
My experience with shining up a vehicle with a worn out paint job is that it doesn't last long.

Normally when the finish is gotten to that shape it's best to aggressively wash the siding to remove the chalk and then paint the siding. A paint job on aluminum siding usually lasts 10-15 yrs.

I would think that waxing would remove a lot of the existing finish but if you do go that route the wax must be removed before paint will adhere!

Clean with TSP then rinse with clear water.
Never going to be the original color after that much time.
Sherwin Williams Super paint works great on siding.
