Rotted exterior shutters???
I have shutters on the exterior front windows and they are 10 years old and have began to rot on the bottom. I would like to cut off the bottoms and replace it with the same wood. Does any body know what type of wood this is? Its a little over a 1/2 inch thick. The picture upload is very confusing so i added them to photobucket.

it would be best to replace the shutters with either ones made out of real wood or vinyl.

Looks like MDF.
Ground up cardboard.
There just is no way to "fix" it.
Builders grade cheap out.

How about remaking them yourself?
They look like they use a pretty simple pattern.
Maybe use some LP SmartSiding or trim.
Seems like a fun project to me.

Some 1 X 6 and 1 X 4 wood grain PVC lumber and some 1-1/2 ceramic coated screws.
Just need a jig saw for the arched and diamond shaped cuts.
Put the screws through the back side in predrilled holes.
