should I cut 2 in nails

I had vinyl siding done a few years ago.I was a very good job.I am redoing the kitchen and have taken out old plaster board and insulation. I will be putting back fiber glass insulation.Would I push out any nails when I push the new insulation over the long nails. Do not want the nails to loosen or cause the vinyl to pop out at all. Or would it be better to just cut any ones in my way.

The fiberglass will just push over the nails. There is no danger of pushing the nails out.

What is this board called and where can I find it?

[ATTACH]58383[/ATTACH] Hi folks. I bought a house that has hardiplank and at the top of the siding before the attic angle is a 'drip edge' type piece of wood that I need to replace. It is an angled piece from 1/2 inch to 3/4 to aid in water run off. I don't know what it is called and I can't find it on the internet. I am probably not using the right term... I also am hoping to find it in vinyl or composite so it won't rot out again... Any help appreciated. I need 48 feet or so. It appears to be 1.75 inches wide, though I haven't pulled it out from the house yet. TIA, JeffRead More

Need suggestions with existing wood siding

I am a new homeowner and don't know too much about siding. I want to know what would you do if you were in my situation. Siding on my house is wood shingles (I think its also called as cedar shingles) which is falling apart, literally. As you can see from the pictures, a lot of shingles are warped and there are places where nails have come lose and shingles are falling out. if I were to guess, about 40% of shingles will need to be replaced i.e. only 60% of shingles are good. I did some research and found that wood shingles siding is expensive and better looking than vinyl. Now I have couple of options. Either get the large missing shingles patches fixed and get the house painted. Or get it replaced with vinyl siding. is there any other option that I missed? I know this should really be my decision but i really would like to know what you think and would do if this was your home.
