Exterior Knotty Pine Staining and Sealing

Hi All, I purchased a cottage and there is a Bunkie that was built maybe a year ago and the exterior walls are tongue and groove knotty pine. The pine has been sanded very smooth and looks like its ready to stain. My plan is to apply a wood conditioner but what should I do after that? Do I just pick a wood stain then seal it?

I'm a little unclear are you talking about the exterior side of the wall [siding] or the interior side of an exterior wall?

Wood conditioner will make the pine take the stain more evenly but it will be a lighter color than without the conditioner. It doesn't have to be used, depends on the look you want.

Interior; wood conditioner or not, stain followed by 2-3 coats of varnish or poly sanding lightly between coats of poly.

Exterior you'd just apply a siding stain, no sealer.

Yes, I am looking to stain the exterior walls which are knotty pine.

The interior walls are the same knotty pine but the interior has already had some type of varnish or shellac applied to it.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. You'd just want to use your choice of siding stain. Basically any color in a toner/translucent or semi-transparent base. No wood conditioner and no sealer over the stain. Exterior stains are formulated to also seal the wood.
