Vinyl siding not adhering to house?

I am sorry if this is a silly question but I have no experience whatsoever with this.
I have a window planter box that is supposed to mount under a window with screws so you can plant flowers in it.
I have vinyl siding and I tried to mount the planter box to the siding under a window, but it seems like the siding pulls away from the house under the weight of the planter (which is still empty) and it seems like this siding will not be able to hold a planter especially not after I fill it with soil and plants.
Is this normal? I have seen many people use such planters on vinyl siding so I wasnt anticipating any issues. Is there some way that I am still supposed to be able to mount the planter on the siding?

Vinyl siding is decorative not structural. Screws must must be long enough to go into at least the sheathing under the the vinyl siding or ideally the studs if the sheathing is only strand board.

And IIRC some houses don't even have sheathing except at corners...just foam board and house wrap.

And to add to what Vic wrote that won't hold squat. You would have to remove (unzip) the vinyl, install blocking between the studs and then reinstall the vinyl or at least located the studs and fasten to them. There will be studs at the corners of the windows and probably mid way between them.
