What are my external covering (boards)?

I have never seen my external covering (boards) off, but I know, somehow, that they are some form of soft, compressed wood, probably a foot (I see only 11 inches) wide, long boards. They 'survive' by being painted. They are slanting and overlapping.

Would anyone have any idea what these boards might be called and where on could buy them? Sorry for no being able to give more info. Perhaps there is a site where I can view different external wall covers.

Regards,

Hans L

Pics would really be helpful!

I assume you are talking about siding, probably lap siding. Might be masonite which has been discontinued.

Sounds like you are probably describing Masonite (Hardboard) lap siding. Forms of it are still being sold in some areas...

Was not sure that the more soft boards were also called 'masonite' in the US (there are the hard and the soft ones in Sweden, where I come from 1981). Yes, we had some work done in 2008, I believe, and the company who did it were able to get the boards.

I'll get back with pics anyway in the afternoon.

Yep, that's Masonite. Try Menards.
