Covering unfinished exterior door frame

Hi all and thanks in advance,

I have a door leading to my backyard which has an exterior frame that was left unfinished on top when I moved in. You can see the attached pictures for your reference.

I recently had water leak into my house after a rainstorm which I suspect came from here, so I wanted to cover and seal this the proper way. Could anyone give their recommendations as to how to best accomplish this? Given that I have very little background in DIY projects, home improvement and repair, etc., it would be most helpful if you could mention materials and equipment needed, and the how-to for completing this type of project. Thank you so much!

It could use a piece of face trim... 1x3 pine. Then caulk all the edges, including where the door meets the brick. Tape the door off to make a nice near line where you caulk.

Ideally you'd cover it with aluminum coil stock bent at a 90 degree angle and caulk the perimeter.
