leak through door frame

We got a new house and already have a weird problem that we didn't see during inspection. When it rains we sometimes get water leaking through the top of the door frame. The weird thing is it's not constant; even during the same rainstorm it will start then after a while stop.

The roof is brand new, but the exterior stucco seems a bit battered at places. The door in question is covered by a 6-foot or so metal roof hanging over the side of the house, though it's a bit run down, and there's water drops coming in through a small hole above the door. I can't see how that water could get where it's coming down in the frame, though. Attached is a picture of the side of the house immediately above the door; does anywhere here look like where the water can be coming from? Thanks for any help.

First thing to do is to plug the hole in the roof so you know it's not a factor. how about a pic showing the door
