Top of Window rotted? How to patch while exterior wall is ope.

My house had rot to the window header due to a gutter over flowing. The wood window has rot in the top part of the window (The head?). This window is a 12 foot, 4 mulled window and isn't within my budget to replace. What should I do to the top to seal or patch it. I have the siding off and trim off. I am about to put in a 2nd header in over the window as the first header has a small section of rot.

Not much you can do. It's an integral part of the window. Prevent it from getting wet again.

I have repaired windows with fiber glass. I like the type like body filler. There also is some you use fiber glass cloth with it. Repaired a sill about 15 years ago and still going strong.

If you do use a patching compound make sure you remove ALL the rotten wood first. Those types of repairs don't hold up well if there is any damp or non solid wood attached to the repair.
