Vinyl siding fascia paint

Pressure washing my vinyl siding, I want to touch up the white fascia/soffet where the paint has flaked off over almost 20 yrs of yearly cleaning. I got a can of the Amerimax white gutter touch up paint, but it dries to a darker shade that is apparent from even 20 ft away.

Anyone know of a close match paint/color easily available......like a Krylon paint?

Color matching paint is best done by taking a sample to a paint store. Otherwise, best is to paint the whole thing and not be worried about a match.

Is the fascia vinyl or aluminum? I've never seen the factory finish peel or wear away on vinyl. The aluminum finish will oxidize and wear away over time. You need to wash/rinse it well! Most any decent latex house paint will preform well. Forget trying to touch it up - just repaint an entire section. The new paint should last 10 yrs or more.

Its aluminum, I just have a few places where the paint came off. Don't think I'm ready to repaint entire sections. I'll get some Krylon and try that and report back.

Thanks for the replies.

Rollex is probably one of the biggest brand names out there... no way to tell what you have with no picture, but Rollex white is called Snowmist if you want to keep trying touch up paint.

If the aluminum finish is bad enough to peel or wear thru it's doubtful any touch up will look well. IMO repainting an entire section of fascia isn't a big deal.

I like easy and the touch up I've done before works ok, but the shade is wrong.

Looked at Krylon White today at store and they have both "flat" and "matte" white. I figure it would be one of those other than gloss or semi gloss?

Any knowledge of the proper sheen on typical panels?

In would call it Matte. Course, old aluminum will weather out to a flat finish. So hard telling. For all we know someone already painted it... unless you know for a fact it hasn't been. The only paint I've ever seen peel off of aluminum fascia cover is paint that someone applied over the top of the factory finish.

I bought the house new 18 yrs ago so I know its never been painted. I'll try the flat paint and see how it goes and report back.

Thanks!

Most of the time that is caused because the old oxidized factory finish wasn't cleaned properly before being repainted. Paint doesn't adhere well to chalky substrates. I've occasionally painted new aluminum [color change] and I'm not aware of any of those paint jobs peeling. Proper prep is always important!

I ended up doing 2 light coats of Rustoleum "satin" white my sister had on hand. After drying it looks to be about perfect, a good improvement over the Amerimax painted areas I did before.

I had just pressure washed the surface and there was no loose paint so hopefully I have good adhesion.

Thanks for the advice!

Solvent based coatings [what's in a rattle can] will adhere better over chalk than latex does. That along with the recent cleaning means you should be fine. Glad you were able to get a suitable touch up.
