Metal siding corner recommendation

Masonite 1/2" siding on 50 yr old house. I need to replace some siding pieces but how do I deal with the metal corner trim? Do i need to rip out all of the metal corner and install new? This may wrap under the siding as well, making things more difficult... or would you just butt in a piece next to the trim and fill? Ideas?

Yes, you will remove the metal corner and replace it with a new one.

If only needing a piece or two you can make the corner trim out of aluminum trim stock but if you need more I'd buy a pack of corners as they are inexpensive.
