Can you stain old cedar siding that has never been stained.

I suppose, but its likely pretty dirty so you might want to power wash it with a deck cleaner to clean and brighten it up first. The sun will also do a number on the surface of unfinished cedar, so that's another reason to prep it first.

Be careful not to get too close and rough it up with your nozzle. If it looks uneven after you power wash it, you could give it a quick sanding with an orbital sander and some 80 or 120 grit.

...... and you don't have to use a pressure washer, a garden hose will also work. I generally wet the wood and then apply a bleach/TSP solution with a pump up garden sprayer, let it set but not dry and then rinse with my pressure washer.

What type of stain do you wish to use? rough sawn or smooth siding?
