Delay staining new cedar siding and decking

I have the world's slowest general contractor and he installed cedar decking about 9 months ago, and cedar siding about 4 months ago. He has not gotten the painter out here to stain or treat in any way and now it seems that the weather in VA will be too cold (Nov 30) and/or wet to do this. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Make sure it gets cleaned well before he does this in the spring, as the wood will likely have greyed some by then.

FWIW, it took two years for me to figure out my contractor was not coming back and then doing the job myself. Fortunately, I only had the deck to worry about.

Cedar weathers well so it should be fine to wait until spring. You'll want to use either bleach or a wood brightener to restore the color [get rid of the grey] before staining. You don't want to use a pressure washer alone as too much pressure can damage the wood.

I see my builder has a couple gallons of "brightener" sitting about which I do think the painter intends to use before staining, which sounds like what you are recommending. I have just been worried that the wood is deteriorating without any kind of protection on it. Thanks for your post, and for your solidarity in knowing I'm not the only one dealing with delays! Hopefully he still plans to return to the job.... :-)

Thanks for this reply too, sounds like we should be ok if I have to wait til spring. Not that I want to as the job was supposed to be done in March 2019! But that helps me worry less that all this delaying isn't ruining my investment in nice siding!
