Painting Fascia and Soffit

I'm about to try and paint my house. I need to paint my fascia boards but I'm unclear how to actually paint under the metal drip edge. I don't want to accidentally paint that metallic part and I don't want to try and brush too close. So how do I get that completed and looking good?

I've always painted up to it letting the bristles slide slightly under the drip edge. I suppose you could use a thin metal shield to keep the paint off of the drip edge although I've never seen the need.

Having done that a couple of times you will find that it's got some flexibility since it's nailed on the deck under the shingles. Just lift up gently and you will get enough clearance that the paint line will be under the edge!
