Cedar Siding Stain Advice

I have a 40 year old house with cedar siding. It was last stained over 12 years ago with an oil based semi-transparent stain. I have replaced some of the siding that was damaged by carpenter bees and woodpeckers. Can I stain it now with a water based solid stain?

Yes, although the new wood will look a little different than the rest no matter what stain you use.

Best water based solid stain I have used is Sikkens Rubbol. Now sold by PPG... some Benjamin Moore dealers still handle it.

Do you have an opinion on Behr Solid Color Waterproofing Stain and Sealer? We have picked out colors from Behr. Do you know if Sikkens can and/or will match those colors?

Generally most paint stores [not paint dept] can match a competitor's color. I've barely used any Behr coatings, they don't have the best reputation although some get good results with it.

Just search this site and read some of the horror stories about Behr products, your comparing one of the best, Sikkens, to (IMO) one of the worst!
