The nailing on the shiplap siding is original(1885) So it must be coming loose. My plan is to shoot a nail into the center of the siding and then use exterior putty. Any thoughts? Thanks

Usually you drive the HDG nails flush and paint them.

Would a 2 3/8 HDG 8d be the correct nail?

I would use 7d HDG nails.

How to you "seal" a shutter against lap siding?

A few years ago I had my siding and shutters replaced. I was amazed at how many wasp nests were hidden behind the siding and shutters. I am building a detached garage and planning out the exterior. With the shutters laying on top of the siding it leaves gaps for wasps to get in there and create nests. What options do I have to seal these gaps? Shutter blown off front of brick house

We had a Shutter blown off the front of our house last week in a storm.
