refresh steel siding

I have steel siding that is probably 40 years old. the siding in itself is in great shape but the paint is starting to fade. I painted it once about 5 years ago with zinsser primer and exterior paint. now it is starting to fade again. Is there a product you can use to brighten the paint or restore the original color? thanks in advance.

You can clean your siding with a pressure washer. Using a cleaner or bleach can help even more. But I don't know of any product that can make your 5 year old paint disappear and magically restore the original color.

Paint will fade over time. Some colors/brands will fade quicker than others. How much sun it sees also plays a part. Repainting is the only fix.

thanks guys, I kind of figured that repainting was the only way to fix it, but you never know, with you folks years of experience they might have developed something and you would probably know about it.

being that the paint isn't chipping or peeling, do I need to use a primer again or just go over the paint once it is washed? any recommendations on what brand of acrylic latex to use? the original was dutch boy and it seemed to fade pretty fast.

Unless the existing paint is chalky [that doesn't wash off] or has rust coming thru it there is no need to prime again. I'd suggest going to your local paint store [not a paint dept] and ask which of their coatings would work best for you in your climate.
