The back side of the siding is exposed in the garage of a cottage we are interested in buying. The cottage was built in the 70’s. Does it look like asbestos?
This is the exposed backside of the siding which covers the garage and cottage.
Asbestos siding is typically 'square' hard shingles nailed up in a shingle like pattern.
Looks like masonite or similar to me too. it was real popular in the 70's and 80's.
Some 15/20 years ago Sears installed Salmon Pink vinyl siding on my home. There is a bottom row that has many holes in it from the gardener weed eating the edge area along the house. I have been trying to find siding that I can purchase to replace it but haven't been successful in locating any the same or similar color. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

I'm attempting to partially finish my detached garage in a house we purchased a few years ago: Adding insulation and an attic.
On the southside, the garage's wall faces my neighbor's deck. There is a gap there in the exterior. The neighbor put in a board when they built the deck, replacing a piece of siding that had a hole in it.
The exterior is a combination of siding and sheathing. There has never been flashing.
I was going to use this method: https://www.finehomebuilding.com/pro...s-no-sheathing
But first I need to figure out what to do about that gap.
The grade raises above the foundation gradually to the East side. I'm going to dig that out and put in a small retaining wall/drain.
Other than tearing down the entire thing - how would you replace the siding/sheathing? Neighbor and I are on good terms and I'm clear to do whatever I want to the garage.
We are in urban Oregon so weather is temperate. Considering how old this is I'm surprised in what good shape it is.
