Plywood Shingles

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen
I have a problem up here in Minnesota. my storage shed that I like a lot has suddenly started shedding its siding. there is no sheathing behind the siding and the siding is made up of strips of plywood. the plywood is overlapped to look like regular siding. each strip is (as far as I can tell) 12" high by 8' long. it looks ok has lasted about 20 years. but is now self destructing both at ground level and higher. I have-not seen another shed built like this and was curious as to any advise to repair or improve on the original design. if I use treated plywood can it be painted OK? should I just tear it off and go with something else?

Regards Steven

a pic or two would be helpful
Plywood used for siding works best when it's full sheets [like T-111] sounds like it might be best to reside the shed, hard to say for sure without seeing it.

Plywood is just not going to last long outside unless it's pressure treated. Cedar siding could be an option but I'm not a fan of maintaining wood outside so I'd be looking for something man-made. The pictures will help generate suggestions.
