golden jubilee (1953 Ford Tractor)

I have a 1953 ford NAA tractor with both a front and back lift. There is a selectrol valve under the seat to switch the hydraulic from one to the other.

I can't get the front lift to work. I've taken the selectrol valve off twice [disassembled and cleaned] and I'm convinced it is in working order. On the bench I can get the front outlet to open and close [verified with both fluid and air] But installed I can't get any fluid to come out of the front The rear lift works perfectly when the valve is set to the rear

Anyone have any ideas?

Tractor

Mark,

I found this. Scroll to the bottom of the document to see a brief write-up on the valve. Good luck.

Thanks Ken, I'll have to bookmark that for future reference. I already knew the valve wasn't available as an after market replacement. I knew what the selectrol valve looked like, now I now what the standard cover plate looks like

I put it back together and for whatever reason it is now working Praise the Lord! There is one catch, it won't raise the bucket if the back lift is already raised. According to the IT manual, this is normal.... but I've had the tractor since 1992 and the front bucket has always raised with the rear lift in the most upright position

At least now I can plow the garden, dress up the driveway and all the other property maintenance that has been on hold..... if it ever quits raining

What I want to know is what is the purpose of the little control lever inset of the draft control? I can pull up on mine and it will raise the implement, but as soon as I let it go, it lowers the implement. So basically it is worthless unless it has a definite purpose. Any ideas. Mine is a '55 640, but I've had 9n before with the same thing.

Draft Control

Larry, I think the lever you referenced is to aid in down draft if you are plowing, tilling, cultivating, etc in hard soil and you need the implement to go deeper.

I may be off a little on my facts. Here is a write-up on draft control:
