Jd 425

I have a JD425 and a 60" mower deck. I also have a 48" front blade with an angle kit attachment. I had the blade hooked up and it was operating fine - up/down and side to side. I took the blade off and turned the toggle switch off to the blade hydraulics. I then tried to hook the mower deck up. The arms to the deck would not come down. I managed to raise the mower deck up high enough to lock the arms in. The top level which operates the up/down for the mower deck would not raise or lower it. It was high so I mowed my horse pasture with it that way. Now, 2 months later, I was going to mower the pasture again but by sitting for this amount of time, the mower deck has lowered itself down to a very low height. The top lever which should raise the deck is not working. I have checked all the oils, transmission is high and engine oil is good. What am I doing or not doing? in order to get this mower deck to raise up? Thanks!

Do the mower arms and the blade work off the same hydraulics switch? Could turning off that switch have messed with the deck mechanism? Is there a separate switch for the deck hydraulics?

Well I don't know bc I cannot find my instructions for the front blade. The instructions for the JD and the mower deck do not mention anything about shutting the line off or on for that matter.

I drive a 1955 Ford 640, so I'm not much help except generic on the JD. I have driven several JD's in the past, but don't remember anything about the mower, as I was using the bucket. Do you have a draft lever on the right side under the seat. If it is set a too high a level, the mower won't lower. Just stabbin' trying to help.

ok, I got it to work. I opened up the line to the hydraulics and the lever to operate the deck worked. I drove up onto two tire ramps and took a good look. I could swear the blade instructions said I had to open up the toggle switch to allow both levers to operate the blade and angle kit. And upon looking close, I was sure it needed to be closed for the mower deck but tried it open just in case and it worked.

Someday, I will run across the instructions for the blade and angle kit and will spend some time reading them. Thanks all!

Stepped into that pile, didn't I. THAT's why you want the "instructions"........better leave well enough alone, huh?
