Automotive fluid hose reel into a air hose reel

Hello I was given a Old transmission fluid hose reel from a old service station and I want to take the hose off and put an air hose on. Is that something that can be done? I have taken the fluid hose off of the reel but I am wondering if I need to blow out the inside of the hose reel with my air compressor before attaching the air hose to complete the procedure.

Sure, why not? How are you going to use the air hose?

It should work just fine.
Just hook up the air supply to the reel first and blow out any remaining transmission fluid.
A good shot of solvent or a light oil like WD-40 in the reel inlet before you connect the air line to ther supply would help flush out traces of transmission fluid.
