Troy Bilt Pony Carb-tank Problem

I got gifted an older Troy Bilt Pony tiller with a 5HP B&S engine. Long story short, the carb/tank assembly is rusted to hell and it appears the fuel tank is supposed to have some sort of 'bulb'/bowl or little tank under the carb for a float of some sort? That feature is more holes and rust than anything solid metal. My question, are there any alternatives to a $100+ new tank? I assume a new tank would include the float bowl? Or is it possible to use a different carb with a fuel pick up ? The machine worked for a while last fall but stalled and choked a lot. Aside from the carb/tank , when running (when it ran) it is smooth and seems in good shape so I am looking for the least expensive path to get it running. Appreciate any ideas
