Question re-setting posts

I have an existing cedar fence that has a few posts that are starting to get loose. What is the best way to re-set the posts?

nopro,

Welcome to DoItYourself.com and the Fence forum.

I going to guess that your posts were set in concrete, or at least with concrete collars around the top foot or so of the portion that is in the ground. If that's the case, the posts are getting loose because the are starting to rot. The solution would be to replace the posts.

You can put in new wood posts, and, as the ones that are tight now start to rot as well, replace them too. Your fence will become an eternal project.

OR you can replace the ones that are loose now with metal posts, and as more become loose, replace them with metal posts as well. Once you have replaced ALL of the posts, your maintenance on the fence will be minimal.
