When to stain/seal?
I had a new pressure treated fence installed laat summer. I was wondering when is the best time to stain the fence. i cant recall if the install said to wait a few years or if i am mistaken. Also what is the best route for durability? a solid stain or a sealer or both? Any help is greatly appreciated
thanks alot

After a few weeks in the sun, the wood is ready. A solid stain is more akin to paint than others, so would perform better. Don't wait so long that the fence needs to be cleaned of mildew and such before finishing it.
Hope this helps.

I have the same question as I just had a 6' stockade fence installed in early spring. It seems that every time we have a few days of warm, sunny weather, it is followed by heavy rain. So, my fence has not had a chance to dry out. It looks like I won't be able to stain/seal it until October

Don't confuse letting the dampness of the pressure treatment of the wood with the wet of the rain. The fence needs to dry the moisture from treatment. When dry wood is wet from rain, it is not wet internally. When the rain dries from the surface, it is as dry as it was before the rain. You should be able to finish it as soon as it dries from the rain, if it is ready otherwise.
