Vinyl Fence to replace wood fence
Hey all!
I have an existing wooden fence with metal posts that I would like to replace with a new vinyl fence. If I were to do this project myself, would I have to re-dig posts, or can I just slide vinyl posts over the existing metal posts? I'm sure that I have left some details out, but just let me know what I am missing, and I will be happy to provide that information.
Cheers,
-MW

You need to dig new holes to set the vinyl posts in, unless you figure out a way to enlarge the metal posts so that you can attach the vinyl posts to them. But you have to look at the style of vinyl fence you will be using -- that may or may not be an option.
If you decide to remove the posts (which is what I would do), getting them and their concrewte collars out is going to be work, but that would pretty much dig the holes for you. Another option might be to cut the metal posts off flush or slightly below grade and move your new holes a couple of feet in one direction or the other.
