Boxed Posts on Metal Poles

I have just built a cedar fence with metal poles. I want to hide the poles. What is the best way to build boxes around the poles?

I use 3 fence boards for each post. The 1st two are ripped just wide enough to cover the post and the hardware. From the fence board side of the fence, screw through the fence boards to attach them on either side of the metal post, perpendicular to the fence boards, and close enough so that the 3rd board can be screwed into the edges of them from the rail side of the fence. The first 2 will have to be notched around the rails.

Thanks for the info. The boards I used are 3/4" x 6". What size screws do you suggest?

1-5/8". If the fence boards are cedar or redwood, use Daconized or S.S. screws. Galvanized or the gold ones will streak.
