What kind of wood?

I'm building a new gate from my front to my back yard. I will be priming and then painting it. What type of wood do you suggest that I use? I will be using 2 X 4's and toung and grove boards. I am trying to keep cost to a minimum but want the gate to be protected from the elements.

Thanks in advance.

Patience Grasshopper

Were it me I would use pressure treated wood. A lot depends on your climate though. Where are you located?

I'd go with PT. Be sure you let it weather for a month or more before you paint it. Prime with a stainblocker such as Kilz Exterior then top coat with oil or latex.
