Picket Screw length

I'm getting conflicting opinions on whether to use 1.625" or 2" screws for fastening fence boards (pickets) to 2x4 fence rails. When using screws, what does everyone usually use?

2" is overkill but I like overkill.

1.625" is fine but I'm an overkill kind of guy so I might use the 2". Since you're screwing these and I'm assuming you're using two screws on top and two on bottom, then that's a lot of screw holding that picket on. Like I said, 1.625 would be fine. Of course use coated/plated. Best of luck, Greg
