Which side goes out?
Hi,
We are wondering which side of the wood privacy fence goes to the outside? Our fence would be between two neighbors and the back fence would face an easment/alley. So it wouldn't be facing the street or visible to the general public.
The guy we had give us an estimate said that they would put the supports side on the outside so we would have a nicer view on our side. This is what one of our neighbors did as well. So we are trying to decide which way to do it. Any thoughts?

Local building codes dictate this one. Many areas require the finished side of the fence to be on the outside. If your community has a website, they may have the basic codes listed on-line for review. Also check to see if a permit is required.
If you are hiring a licensed contractor, it is his responsibility to see that the fence is put up according to code.
