Curving Wood Fence

Any ideas or pointers on building a curving fence with a sharp curve and winding (like a big question mark). It's already existing (falling apart) about 50 years old. Will be about 30 feet long total.

What type of wood would I use as bender boards that are attached to the 4x4 posts ???

I plan on using 6-foot x 4-inch redwood planks to make this privacy fence.

If it lasted fifty years, study it closely and rebuild it exactly as it was.

BigYellowHouses,

Welcome to DoItYourself.com and the Fence forum.

Tscarborough has a great suggestion, but don't expect anything you install to replace it to last another 50 years.

You probably can't get EXACTLY what was originally used for posts. If they are PT, the same type doesn't exist anymore.

The redwood available today is nothing like the redwood that was available 50 years ago. Today it all comes from very young trees, and it's simply not going to last as long as old growth wood did.

For the rails, you'll probably be using several layers of either redwood or a composite bender board. See what's available where you're at.
