I wanted to build a picket fence and have a bad back, so I hired a "fencing" company to dig and set the posts (treated lumber) for me (24 in all). I will add the pickets etc myself. I finally got around to doing the job (weather has cooled) and the posts (I asked for 8' centers and 48" posts) are not the correct centers or height. Am I being too particular? What is a good margin of error? Here are the heights of the posts and spacing between posts: Remember I for asked for 8’ centers and 48” high posts. This is what we have: Post heights range from 44 ½ to 48 ¼ Here are the heights: 46 ½, 46, 45 ¼, 47 ½, 45 ½, 45 ½, 44 ½, 46 ¼, 47, 47 ½, 47, 47 ½, 46 ¼, 45, 45 ½, 47, 48 ¼, 48, 46 ¼, 45 ½, 45, 45 ¼, 46 ¼ Here are the post centers: 81 ¼, 96, 94 ¾, 93 ¾, 95 ½, 95, 97 ¾, 96 ¼, 94 ¾, 98, 96, 93 ¼, 96 ½, 95 ¾, 97, 95 ¾, 96 ¼, 97, 94 ½, 95 ¼, 97 ¾, 93 ¾ Half an inch I can live (is that fair?) with but as you can see these are all over the place. Plus some of the posts are ‘bananas’. Should I complain?

Im having trouble visualizing in my head how that would work. My only thought would they be one of the boards have to run inside the post a little bit enough to get a couple of nails in. I guess visually it wont get notices because of the inlet boards that will block the view......did I just answer my own question? lol
