using existing chainlink fence posts as posts for new cedar fence?

hello!
we have a chainlink fence running around the perimeter of our house. the posts are about 4'6" tall and are spaced 10' apart. we are wondering if we can save time/money/resources by using these existing fence posts as the posts for a new 6' high cedar fence. any way to make this work?
thanks!
shanna

With the existing posts being ten feet apart you will need to install additional posts in between the existing posts. The new posts can be 4x4 cedar posts. You will need to drill through the steel posts to be able to bolt the 2x4 rails for the new fence and these rails will need to be at least ten feet long to span from the new wooden posts. Or, you could either bolt or weld angle steel to the steel posts to allow for bolting wooden rails. You will likely need to install additional height to the steel posts.

All in all it would probably be less work to remove the existing steel posts and use all wooden posts.
