Question Horizontal Fence

I'm currently planning a horizontal fence for my home and wanted some advice. This is the look I'm going for, in general: Woodvalley House - contemporary - exterior - baltimore - by Ziger/Snead Architects.

Right now, I'm thinking 4 ft. tall using 16 ft cedar pickets. To save on costs, I have received an estimate for a fence builder to purchase the materials, build the gates, and install the posts. I would install the pickets.

Along with general thoughts and tips any of you might have, I'm looking for advice on how to handle the slope in our yard. It's probably a few feet from end to end on two of the sections. I believe the fence would look much better if level at the top so I'm trying to determine the best way to make that happen.

Thanks in advance for the input. If you can't tell, this will be the first fence I've "built" and I'm not an experienced do-it-yourself'er so keep things pretty basic in your explanations.

Fence

Sections will be stair-stepped if your are building on a slope.

I personally like the slats to follow the slope of the ground. This keeps everything the same distance from the ground.
