Fence gate post repair

The post is rotten, needs to be replace. This is the post for the fence gate where the lock is located. There is a small panel attached the post to cover the gap between the post and the side wall of the house. The problem is that the build didn't pour concrete correctly - it didn't have any concrete to fix the post. Instead it just build a side path where the post only have concrete in the surface. See the picture: the hole on the path still has the shape of the post. I cannot dig a bigger hole to pour concrete to fix a new post w/o destroy the path. I could hammer in one post. But I am afraid it may not be strong w/o pouring new cement. However, I don't have room to add cement in w/o destroy the concrete path. Any idea?

Could be the pic or my eye but it doesn't look like the hole is deep enough, is there still some wood in it? What you might need to do is cut out some of the sidewalk, dig deeper, install the post and then pour concrete.

thanks for reply. You are right, seem the hole isn't deep and there is no cement under the sidewalk. That's why I said the builder didn't do good job. May I ask how can I cut the sidewalk? I have a 110v receptacle saw. Is it going to work if I put a special blade on it?

I'm not fond of doing it because of the dust but you can put a masonry blade on a skil saw and make the cuts. You might not have to go all the way thru - I'd try cutting about half way and then use a chisel and hammer.
