wooden fence rail location
I'm building a wooden privacy fence on metal posts using oz fence connectors. I'm currently attaching my bottom rail and not sure I'm doing it correctly. My first 8 foot 2x4 is about a foot off the ground. As I continue, I notice the rail is getting closer to the ground. I'm using a level. Is this the correct way to do it, or should I put the bottom rail the same distance off the ground? Thanks

I usually agree with Mark, but not this time. When stick building a privacy fence, I think you should follow the lay of the land. Locate the bottom rail the same distance from the ground at each post. Then upper rails equidistant from the bottom rail. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with your project.

While seeing the lay of the land might alter my advice, IMO it's easier to make 90° cuts than try to figure the angle needed to follow the land. It shouldn't hurt for the fence boards to go down further so they follow the grade.

Thanks for all the replies. The grade isn't bad. I went out today and actually measured, ground to bottom of rail, and it starts out at 8 1/2 inches and goes down to 4 inches. This is my first fence and just want to do it right. I think using the oz connectors would make it hard to follow the grade?? I'm not sure how I would do that since the ends of two rails attach to one connector. Do you think the 4 inch difference will look bad once the entire fence is finished? thanks again
