Building a very heavy wood fence

I have some fencing that needs to be replaced soon. In the interest of privacy & blocking street noise, I'd like to come up with a very heavy design. I first thought about concrete/stone, but I don't think masonry will work aesthetically. I'm thinking about a very heavily built wood fence. I googled a bit, but didn't turn up any sources/guides for making things extra heavy. I'm pondering a traditional style with 2x material, but what if I want to eliminate the gaps (moisture change in the wood becomes an issue). I'd likely be shooting for the legal maximum in my area, which is 8ft. The first section I'm considering is about 25ft long, between two houses (both of which I own), and it shields the side/back yards from the sidewalk & street.

I'd like to have some fun with the design if I can. Maybe a big round hobbit-style door?

Any ideas are welcome!

 

The problem with building a solid wood fence is two fold; it is more prone to damage from extreme wind and if any moisture gets in the joints it will be harder for it to dry out = more likely to rot. Thicker material would make the fence heavier but it may also need better support.

 

The material in of itself will not provide noise abatement. Design is what you need to consider. GOOGLE "Noise Abatement Fence". There are designs and materials available. Won't be cheap!
