Waterline next to post hole

Waterline next to post hole

I was digging for a post hole yesterday knowing that my waterline was close so I made sure to take it easy. You will see in the attached picture that I came very close to the waterline. My question is, how should I protect the line before pouring concrete into the hole or should I move the hole completely away from the waterline? I really like the location of the post so I would like to keep it there if possible.

Concrete shouldn't hurt the pvc although it might complicate things if you ever need to replace the water line.

I'd cover the water line with something; scrap of tar paper, cardboard, piece of a tarp, rag... You can push nails through your scrap and into the dirt to hold it in place, set your post and pour your concrete. Since your water line is so close I would NOT use compacted gravel to fill the hole. I would use concrete.
